St. james
St James parish is located on the west coast – the home of Barbados most famous beaches. Duty-free shoppers head out to Sunset Creek, Chattel House Village and the West Coast Mall. The Barbados Seniors Open is a popular activity for the over-40 crowd and the Royal Westmore’s scenic course set on 500 acres of coastal land is perfect for all ages. St. James Parish, St. Albans and St. Frances of Assissi are important landmarks as is the Portvale Sugar Museum’ demonstration of sugar from the cane to the table. St. James has an assortment of eclectic restaurants. If you’ve never tried Barbados food you’re in for a treat! Barbados is famous for peas and rice cooked with coconut milk, grilled pigtails and like most places in the Caribbean – mouth-watering cracked conch. If you’re adventurous Buljol, a dried codfish concoction, is healthy and tasty. A Rum Punch featuring Mount Gay rum – Barbados national drink – pairs well, but watch out – it really does pack a punch!
