TORONTO — With memories of Hurricane Dean still fresh, Sunwing Vacations has introduced a Hurricane Threat Guarantee which is included free of charge on every Sunwing holiday booked to travel between Aug. 20 and Nov. 30 this year.

The guarantee allows travellers to move their vacation to another date later in the fall; take the cost of their vacation and apply it to another destination and departure date; cancel with a full refund; or travel as planned (assuming Sunwing operates a flight).

The program kicks in as soon as the Canadian government has issued a Travel Advisory relating to a hurricane; the U.S. National Hurricane Center five-day forecast shows a potential hurricane; or a if a hurricane has passed through a destination up to a week prior to the client’s scheduled departure for that destination.

In the unlikely event that a hurricane affects a destination while Sunwing passengers are there and they are either evacuated out by Sunwing or make their own plans to come home, passengers will receive a credit in a form of a Travel Voucher for the unused accommodation portion of their holiday.

 “The safety of our customers is our single largest concern,” says Sunwing COO, Stephen Hunter. “But at the same time we want to let them know that they can book fall travel with confidence, knowing that in the unlikely event of a hurricane, we will take all appropriate actions to protect our passengers.”
